It All Begins & Ends With Awareness
The Fundamentals of Change (Part 1)
There is a fundamental element to all endeavors worth doing and it's something that arises inside of us quite naturally. In fact, if you look closely at your experience, you'll see that it IS YOU. It's the only part of you that doesn't change amidst a lifetime of moving parts.
That element is Awareness.
In order to make any kind of lasting change in our lives, we must first become aware of the desire for that change. It's an interesting paradox (as is most of life) because you can't really make it happen. It happens all on its own when the time is right.
The flip side of that paradox is that you CAN put into practice certain strategies that are highly likely to increase your awareness and speed up the process to connecting with yourself on a deeper level.
When we're able to connect deeply with the multi faceted layers of ourselves, we start to discover the nuances of inner belief patterns and reactivity to the external world that is holding us apart from truly taking agency over our lives.
Generally, this tends to start on the most dense levels of our experience. Meaning that we will essentially have to beat ourselves over the head with a hammer (figuratively speaking) before we end up gaining enough momentum of awareness to make lasting change. It's often our own self imposed hardship that begins to propel us in the direction of an entirely new life.
On a practical level it doesn't need to be this way and damnit! We shouldn't stand for unnecessary self inflicted damage any longer than we have to. However, since humans are a silly species and tend towards being gluttons for punishment (including yours truly), this often takes a bit of time and that's ok!
As a society we've drifted so far outside of our connection with our own inner guidance system, that it's no wonder things don't tend to work out so well for us. My intention with everything I write and speak about is to help get you back into harmony with your organic self, with your unique pattern.
Your organic self is the part of you that is playful, childlike and naturally attuned to your innate inner wisdom. It knows what you want and how to get it. There's a magical quality to it that's always in touch with giving you the next right nudge in the direction of your truest desires.
So you're probably wondering ok, HOW Cole? How do I connect myself back to that innate inner wisdom? How do I uncover what I've lost amidst the noise and psychological junk food that penetrates society at every level?
The TRUTH is this:
You're going to have to get uncomfortable before you settle into the comfort of your own unique pattern. It's going to be uncomfortable because we've been conditioned into believing that what is unnatural to us is completely natural and we've believed it because virtually everyone you meet is living this way. We've been told the abnormal is normal.
It's as though everyone is running around in pain with a finger, hand or arm chopped off and when they see someone with all of their digits and limbs in tact they become suspicious and think there must be something wrong with that guy. WOAH. 😳
I'm here to tell you that this is TOTAL HORSE SHIT and is no way any sane person would want to live. Insanity runs on conditioned auto pilot and sanity looks like spontaneous expression and agency over your moment to moment lived experience.
The reason you're reading this is because you've sensed that there is something more for you and that there HAS TO be a better way. You know that the way most people in the world are living chalks up to utter neurosis and insanity. That YOU are living with a mind full of neurosis and insanity. Again, that's why you're reading this. It's not by accident.I know because I've lived that life and I still have periods of neurosis and self defeating nonsense that crosses my mind. Old habits have a tendency of dying hard and the conditioned mind is literally the boss hog peddler of all useless rumination.
Before writing this series of newsletters I thought to myself...
Cole: "If you were to go back 12 years in time, knowing what you know now, how would you rebuild yourself in a way that closed the gap between who you are now and who you were then in an expedited fashion?".
The biggest piece that stuck out to me was this:
TREATING MY BODY WITH RESPECT.
Literally the most fundamental baseline to speeding up or slowing down my own self realization was, you guessed it, the items I was physically shoving into my pie hole. Something I had complete control over.
Simultaneously, this was the piece that I wanted to avoid the most. This was the piece that was SO OBVIOUS that I ignored for years. I mean COME ON! It couldn't be THAT simple. 🙄
I literally did EVERYTHING else to avoid not putting junk food, alcohol and mind altering substances into my body.
Meaning I practiced yoga, meditated, worked out, changed environments, read books, went to therapy, wellness retreats, massage etc. All of which came with lots of benefits and taught me a whole lot about myself, BUT which are so much more impactful when you have a clear channel (mind & body) in which to implement these skills and modalities.
Now that I've taken control of my physical health, the multiplier effect of adding the above practices has been truly life changing.
So, the first fundamental piece of advice that I will give in this series is to take a step back from your life and get HONEST with yourself.
What is the #1 most impactful thing in your life that you can change in order to give yourself the space for more clarity?
Like me, for many of you it will be your physical health. Others environment. Others relationships that you need to let go of. Probably all three, but start with the biggie.
I invite you to ask yourself what that one thing is which will start unraveling the thread of your own ignorance. The one thing that will open you up to a new level of self awareness and allow you to move forward. Hint: It's usually the things you know most clearly deep down, but are doing everything you can to desperately ignore and avoid.YEAH THAT THING. You know what it is. I want you to look at THAT.
Once you start going to work on that thing, it generally tends to soften or solve a whole host of other "problems" that you didn't even know were connected to it.
It's the big log jam that's been constipating the rest of your life from flowing with ease. (Yes that's a toilet humor metaphor, you're welcome)
Please feel free to email or DM me on Twitter with your "one thing".
Welcome to the first step towards reclaiming YOUR freedom. And as always, don't forget to relax and enjoy this process as much as you can. EXPERIMENT! You're literally getting the opportunity to become conscious and create yourself anew. This is exciting stuff! Cheers.
With Gratitude,
Cole
